When engaging in training our muscles are constantly contracting and relaxing and these cycles of contraction and relaxation cause our muscles to become stiff post exercise. Whilst we are performing any activity our muscles are required to contract and generate force, but the degree to which the muscles contract, the amount of muscle fibres contracting and portions of the muscles that are recruited vary depending on the exercise being performed.
Due to the latter variables, our muscles never become uniformly stiff and hence develop tight portions or trigger points that can actively limit our performance. Performing routine stretches, uniformly stretch the entire muscle from origin to insertion, but do not apply specific attention to the trigger points generated during rigorous activity, so although stretching does play an important role in preparing muscles for high performance, it does not provide direct attention to those limiting points in our muscles.
The Stick is actively used to target trigger points and reduce stiff portions of the muscle tissue when preparing for, or recovering from rigorous activity. Trigger points are bands of muscle that contain
